In the last days the Bible warns us that there will arise false Christs, and false prophets who will show great signs and wonders, and if possible, would even deceive the very elect. These men and women will come disguised in sheep’s clothing but inside they are ravenous wolves.
Paul and the False Apostles
2 Corinthians 11
I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me! For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.
So Paul is giving us clues as to how this deception will happen. He says these imposters will proclaim another Jesus that presents a different gospel. Well one perfect example of what this passage means is coming to pass right before our eyes. A very popular show that has many Christians deceived is called The Chosen. This production proclaims a different gospel and another Jesus.
Let me explain. Dallas Jenkins the producer and creator of the show has made it clear that he believes Mormons, Catholics, and Christians all “love the same Jesus.” The problem with that is the Mormons have a completely different gospel, known as the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith allegedly had an encounter with “an angel of light” that told him to write the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a religious text considered sacred by the Latter-day Saints, which it is viewed as a companion to the Bible. It is called The Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ.
According to Joseph Smith, in 1823, when he was seventeen years old, an angel of God named Moroni appeared to him and told him to translate the Book of Mormon from ancient writings that were initially on golden plates. Dallas Jenkins put together a group of spiritual advisors to make sure to get Christ right. That panel consists of a Mormon, a Catholic priest, and a Jewish Rabbi.
This is a huge problem because in Revelation 22:18 it is clear that we are not to add or take away from the Bible.
I warn everyone who hears the prophetic words in this book: if anyone add to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words in this prophetic book, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city described in this book.
We are also told that such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond with their deeds. (2 Corinthians 11:13)
The False Christ of The Chosen
To bring God down to our level, The Chosen includes a scene where Jesus prepares a sermon and rehearses well-known passages, making them feel more human and common than inspired by His Father. His mother interrupts him during one of these rehearsals, and you can see the frustration in his eyes. During this same interaction with Jesus and Mary, she says, “I’m proud of you” to which this supposed Jesus replies, “Maybe wait to say that until after I’m done, in case I mess up in front of such a big crowd.”
The Divinity of Christ
The authentic Jesus of the Bible is the second person in the Holy Trinity. He is a divine being who only does what his Father tells him to do. We must never take away the divinity of Jesus Christ. For the Sermon on the Mount, The Chosen’s Jesus asks for help from Matthew on what he should say. The indication is that the disciples collaborated. When in reality, the Holy Bible tells us that the Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, correcting, and training in righteousness. The Bible is inspired by God and is of divine origin. The men of God who wrote the Bible were inspired by the Holy Spirit. ( 2 Timothy 3:16)
Jonathan Roumie is a devout Roman Catholic who plays the part of Jesus in The Chosen. He promotes the New Age application called Hallow where you can pray the Rosary with him or follow along in guided meditation. He has also allegedly layed on the grave of Lonnie Frisbee and prayed to him for a sign before playing him in the Jesus Revolution movie.
In Matthew 11, John the Baptist sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else? The Chosen changes what is clearly written in Scripture. “Even he John the Baptist has questions,” and verses 21-30 are left out entirely.
In actuality Jesus replied, ”Go back and report to John what you hear and see. The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.”
Strong Delusion
Now the Spirit expressly says that in the later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teaching of demons. The Scripture mentions those who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created. Catholicism does just this by not allowing priests to marry and abstaining from meat during Lent. (1 Timothy 4:1-3)
The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing because they refuse to love the truth and to be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) The strong delusion causes individuals to believe a lie, which is often described as a false gospel or a deceptive message.
The strong delusion is a result of people who have persistently rejected the truth and instead have embraced falsehoods. This implies a deliberate choice to ignore or reject God’s truth, often in favor of false doctrines or beliefs.
But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter. (2 Thessalonians 2:13-15)
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ (Matthew 7:21-23)
