You have been our refuge,
Throughout each generation;
You have given a deluge,
Of hope and inspiration.
Before the mountains were born,
And You had given us birth;
You gave this place to sojourn,
This world we are calling earth.
You are God everlasting,
Turning mortals back to dust;
But our prayer and fasting,
Gives us an eternal trust.
In Your sight a thousand years,
Can be like a single day;
Comforting and drying tears,
As You sweep mortals away.
Like cut grass they sprout again,
Their slumber merely a dream;
Of how something might have been,
That reality has seen.
In the morning they will sprout,
The evening they wither;
For the day brought so much doubt,
Into their bed they slither.
We are consumed with anger,
But fury will terrify;
Causing some to speak vulgar,
Before they can verify.
You have showed us our sin,
Our secret sin to light;
How corrupted deep within,
And not pleasant in Your sight.
All our days slip away,
We live our years like days;
As we roam and go astray,
Stuck travelling in a maze.
We live for seventy years,
Even eighty in good health;
But death will never cause fears,
For faith will give us much wealth.
