Understanding

Date:

The Lord is my light,
And my salvation;
A lighthouse at night,
A firm foundation.

Who is there to fear?
He is my fortress;
With Him always near,
At times of duress.

Evil closes in,
To tempt with a lure;
In attempt to sin,
Behind the closed door.

I try to resist,
The Lord hears my plea;
It cannot persist,
When He makes it flee.

My foes have stumbled,
Its army makes camp;
But never humbled,
From light of His lamp.

I am not afraid,
Though war may break out;
Since I have obeyed,
Never having doubt.

One thing I will seek,
To stay in His house;
For I am so meek,
Quiet as a mouse.

For I want to gaze,
Upon His beauty;
Like cattle that graze,
On what is fruity.

He gives protection,
From approaching storms;
Of harm prevention,
Till weather transforms.

Hear my plea O Lord,
Have pity on me;
Not to be ignored,
So that I can see.

Richard Sherrer is actually retired from the United States Air Force about 14 years ago. He had lived in Korea while in the Air Force in 1972 and 1973. You might be asking yourself what brought him back to Korea. I guess you could say that it was a lot of love here, for the country, the people and especially for a Christian woman that he met on the Internet. She convinced him to return to be with her. So he came originally to teach English in July of 2000. They were married July of 2001. Now turned poet which is subject that is near and dear to his heart. His love for Christ and God is an inspiration to all who read his poetry.
