Be ready to listen,
As well as slow to speak;
Let anger not glisten,
For answers that you seek.
Angry men do not do,
What the Lord approves of;
Anger will not hold true,
What we know of His love.
So get rid of your sin,
And all the wicked things;
Accept His Word within,
That your humbleness brings.
Do as what His Word tells,
Not just listen to it;
Obedience excels,
Be blessed for your merit.
If anyone does hear,
But will never obey;
Does not show any fear,
In what the Lord does say.
He is just like the fool,
Who looks in the mirror;
Disregards any rule,
Never an adherer.
He studies his features,
And then he walks away;
Lost what taught by teachers,
Easily goes astray.
One who studies the Word,
Knows what he has been taught,
And he does what is heard,
To find what he has sought.
If a person that thinks,
But controls not his lips;
Fools himself what he drinks,
The poison that he sips.
