Do you put God in first place or do you always have excuses for not doing what He wants you to do? The First Commandment is to put God first. It means to live to do God’s will; so that it becomes more important than doing what you want to do. Jesus said the following in Matthew 12:48-50 (KJV) 46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, Who is my mother? And who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
You can’t let go of your own will on your own as it is impossible; but when you have repented of your sins and have given your life to Jesus, your life no longer belongs to you, but to Jesus, as you have had a spiritual marriage with the Lord, so that you live in God and he lives in you.
With the Lord’s help and total dependence on Jesus, he is able to raise you to a higher level of sanctity. In order to do that, you have to get rid of idolatry in your life and ask Jesus to show you what they are, and to help you get rid of them. Ask yourself those questions. Have I made the following an idol, TV, the internet, alcohol, cigarettes, hobbies or someone in my life ? Are these things the centre of your life, or is Jesus the centre of your life? Ask Jesus to show you the truth. Afterwards with his help get rid of idols because only when you do so will you truly become a child of God.
See the prayer.
Jesus I truly repent of my sins and I give you my life. Please help me to do your will and to live for you; so that you become the Lord and Saviour of my life Amen.
