There seems to be a serious problem in today’s Christian culture. The problem is that there are way too many people identifying themselves as Christians but yet choose to not go to church, not to pray, and not to connect with God. You see the posts they write each and everyday about loving God, that He is their father, that they know Jesus died for them- yet these people posting are the exact individuals that you don’t see in church ever.
Being a follower of Christ should go beyond accepting Him into your heart and acknowledging what He did on the cross. It requires investing your time and energy into honoring and praising God just as Ezra did. You need to be able to meditate on His Law and put serious efforts into following them.
By not attending a church you are allowing something else in your life to become an idol that you worship. The attention is not anywhere on God but instead it is on your family, your job, your hobby, your eyelids.
Ezekiel 18:24 says “But when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die.”
When we choose to find “better things to do” on Sundays, we are allowing ourselves to turn away from the righteousness we have that God blessed us with. When we turn our backs away from God, even if it’s just by going to church- we experience a spiritual death. Not necessarily is it a separation from spending eternity in Heaven, but there is a distress that occurs between you and The Father when you choose to not go to church.
There are options and alternatives to be able to attend church services each week. Our Christian culture has become so arms wide open like. There are plenty of churches with midweek services or several one one given Sunday. God wants you to come to His house of worship and He wants you to know the Bride of Jesus.
By allowing yourself to connect with Him and to also set this time aside each week to attend His House, you are allowing Him to bless you with a deeper connection.
These days there is nothing to fear when it comes to churches because many have grown up and out of being that judgmental church that many believe to still exist. Believe what you will about the morons that give Christians bad press, but the ones who have heart and a genuine desire to reach the lost to Jesus Christ will not the ones parading around in public. They are the ones who are in church every Sunday doing what they do – in order to honor and worship Jesus.
