The way you think of yourself can be a barrier towards your relationship with Jesus Christ because you are a product of what you believe.
Jesus Christ doesn’t want you to think of yourself in a negative manner and put yourself down by being guilt ridden and believing that you are a terrible sinner or a terrible failure. First you need to repent of your sins and once you have repented of your sins remember that Jesus Christ has redeemed you and justified you, and there is no judgment for those in Jesus Christ. See John 5:24 and 1 John 1:9. If you offend the Lord again, repent straightaway and let Jesus help you turn away from sin because you love him and let him help you become a new creation in Jesus Christ. Remember that greater is he in you than who is in the world. See 1 John 4:4. When you do that and focus on Jesus Christ your Saviour and good shepherd rather than yourself, you remove the barriers so that you enable him to fill you will his great love in order to have this personal intimate relationship with him. Jesus wants you to be yourself and to remember just how precious you are in his eyes and his beloved child. See Jeremiah 31:3.
Jesus Christ wants us to be one with him as he is one with the Father so that he can take control of our life and let him reign supremely in our heart, soul and body and take control of every word, deed and action that we do. Put the Lord first before anyone or anything on earth. Jesus Christ wants us to have a personal relationship with him, so that we hate sin and our desire is to do God’s will and obey his Commandments not out of obligation or duty, but because we don’t want to hurt him as we have such an adoration for him that we just want to please him and give him happiness and praise, worship and true adoration. When you love someone all you want to do is to please them, well even more so with God. You feel so close to God that you know that he is within your heart and also by your side every moment of the day, and you are aware of his presence so that you can chat with him anytime because he is never too busy for you and because he lives within your heart it is him who helps you to automatically love your neighbour and draws you away from sin and all that isn’t from God. Tell Jesus Christ a few times a day that you love him and that you trust him completely and believe in him
When you have that close friendship with God, you know that there is no mediator between man and God, but only Jesus Christ the Son of God as seen in 1 Timothy 2:5.
People have been told that the only way to Jesus Christ is through Mary. That is false because when Jesus Christ died on the Cross the veil in the temple that divided man from God “was torn in two”, so that we could go directly to Jesus Christ. If you ask Mary and the Saints to intercede for you and never speak to Jesus directly, aren’t you showing him that you don’t trust him to answer your prayers? How then can you have a personal intimate relationship with the Lord by always passing through Mary and the Saints because you need to talk to the Lord heart to heart for that to happen? An example is that if you are married and have a go between you and your spouse, wouldn’t it prove that you had a very bad marriage as it would mean that you didn’t trust your spouse.
Well, it is the same with Jesus Christ, as that attitude shows complete distrust towards the Lord and that is making an idol of the Virgin Mary. What mother would want the limelight instead of her son? Mary is the most wonderful mother in the world and she would never want to take her son’s place and that attitude is surely making her cry. The veil in the temple was torn in two which symbolized that we have direct access to God only through Jesus Christ.
Remember if you keep asking Mary and the Saints to intercede for you and if you never pray directly to Jesus Christ and show the Lord just how much you love him, you won’t have that wonderful close relationship with him. You need to offer your life to the Lord as a daily offering and to do everything for the Lord’s glory, so that you live for him.
Having a personal friendship with Jesus Christ means that you put him first before anyone or anything on earth including those you love and putting him before Mary, the apostle Paul, Jesus’ Disciples, Servants, the Saints, worship singers, pop singers. Jesus Christ said to go to him and no one else. See Matthew 11:28-30.
When you put God in first place you obey the first Commandment and show the Lord that you love him with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind. See Matthew 22:37.
At times you just need silence to let the Lord’s love, peace, grace, holiness and light soak you up in this intimacy of heart to heart with him. Some people aren’t comfortable with silence, but that is what you need to get closer to the Lord, and don’t be afraid of it, but just let the interfering thoughts drift by and fully concentrate on Jesus Christ. If you are right with God and have repented of your sins and believe that he has forgiven you and washed them away then there won’t be a barrier between you and him. It is also a time when the Holy Spirit can convict you of a sin and guide you in your life and teach you how to get rid of sins. Don’t give up if nothing happens for 10 minutes or more, but you can repeat a Biblical passage from to time to still your mind, and don’t rush this time with the Lord, as God isn’t defined by time, so don’t look at your watch but put it aside. If you give God quality time, he will enable you to get everything you want done. During your quiet time with the Lord, you can recite a Bible verse like “Be still and know that I am God” or sing a few lyrics of worship songs in your heart and repeat them or speak in tongues until you mind is quiet.
Remember that you are loved by God and are his precious child. If you wish to have a very close relationship with Jesus Christ and if you seek to do his will, you can say the following prayer.
Prayer of surrender to Jesus Christ
I repent of all my sins and anything I have done to offend you, and I seek to do your will. I surrender myself totally to you, so that I no longer live but you live in me, and I live in you, as you live in the Father.
Please fill me with your Holy Spirit to the brim, purify me and cleanse me of my sins and all the decay resulting from sin. Please and reign supremely in my heart, soul, body, spirit and mind, and take control of every word, deed and action that I do. Please be the Lord, Saviour and Master of my life and cover me with Your Precious Blood and wrap your arms of love around me.
Help me to have a close personal intimate friendship with you so that I am so much a part of you that you guide me to automatically do whatever you would do in my place, and to reach everyone I meet with your abundant love and mercy, and to comfort all those in need.
Help me cling to you when I suffer and not give up, but pick up my cross and follow you, and offer you my life as a daily offering. Help me to trust in you and rest in your arms like a baby that is totally dependent on you. Amen.
Remember that if everyone lets you down, the Lord will never let you down. Have a complete adoration for Jesus Christ and let him be the centre of your life. Don’t ever give in because Jesus didn’t give up for love of you and don’t compromise and go along with the whole world, but seek to go through the narrow gate and refuse to be led astray even if it means that you are unpopular and ridiculed? Seek to want to become less so that the Lord can abide in you and you become a light of Christ who is his imitator. See 1 John 2:6.
