The Lord has examined me,
He knows when I have sat down,
And He is able to see,
When smiles become a frown.
He knows when I did get up,
Read my thoughts from far away;
Pouring coffee in my cup,
Thinking of going astray.
He watches where I have gone,
And the time I get some rest;
If I stay out until dawn,
Of motive and interest.
He has known what I say,
Before they flow from my tongue;
For He knows every day,
Of the praises I have sung.
He is completely around,
In the front and in the back;
I feel His hand so profound,
With knowing things that I lack.
Such knowledge is beyond grip,
Much higher than I can reach;
I need wisdom on my lip,
And enable me to teach.
Where can I go to today?
Can I go up to Heaven?
Or down to hell faraway,
Someplace He has not given.
Let me climb up to the sun,
Or a deep part of the sea;
Turn back when time had begun,
So I can make myself free.
Even there His hand will guide,
His hand is holding on me;
There is no place I can hide,
I need the insight to see.
I cannot hide in the dark,
For He makes night into day;
Shines brightly where I embark,
Brightens what I should obey.
