Have pity on me O Lord,
Because I am in distress;
Let not my plea be ignored,
For it creates a great stress.
My body and soul waste away,
In such sorrow and much grief;
Temptation moves me to stray,
From my faith and my belief.
My life has been exhausted,
From all my years of groaning;
Street walkers have accosted,
For pleasure in my moaning.
My strength staggers from the weight,
Of my guilt causing decay;
And I am dreading my fate,
While my bones waste away.
I have become a disgrace,
Because of all of my foes;
I need Your hand to embrace,
For hiding me from my woes.
I became someone I dread,
My friends are avoiding me;
Makes me wish that I were dead ,
For success I do not see.
I sense my memory fades,
I remember now no more;
Forgetting the past decades,
Locked away behind a door.
But I trust in You O Lord,
All because You are my God;
And remain in one accord,
For I still honor and laud.
So I place within Your hands,
For Your peace within my heart;
As I honor Your commands,
In giving me a fresh start.
